About

My name is Tina Lerch and I am a student at the Swiss School in Barcelona. I am currently going into my last year of school, so 12th grade. This website is a part of my Maturapaper that I am writing to graduate. The topic of my paper like people might have realised is about commerical whaling. The purpose of this website is to make this complex topic a bit simpler and easier to understand. I hope it helps some people to learn more about commercial whaling. Additionaly, there is also a discussion page, where people can talk about what their mind set on whaling is.

The reason why I want to write about whaling and specifically commercial whaling is because I have always loved any sea mammal (dolphins, whales, otters, seals, etc). I found out that I am very much interested in animal rights, because I believe they do not have enough rights to protect them, sea mammals even more than animals are more familiar with.

I believe how Japan and Norway hunt these whales is inhumane and barbaric and should be known by the world. This is why I am interested in this subject. I was in disbelief when I realized that so many people have no idea what is happening in the waters of Japan and Norway, because for me it was a very important topic. Although I did know about the commercial whaling in Japan, even I was surprised that in the last five years two European countries, Norway and Iceland, have conducted commercial whaling.

For these reasons, I decided this was a perfect subject for me, because I could learn many things, while researching about this.

I want to thank Herr Gehrig and Ms. Hansen for being my tutors and supporting me through the writing process. I also want to thank all of my family and friends who read my paper and gave me notes. But specifically I want to thank my parents, Iren Bischofberger and Urs Lerch, for helping me through this process from the beginning on.
